Whether you have a connection to St. Norbert College in De Pere or not, this Saturday is a great weekend to visit the campus.
There is a ton of family fun planned for the 2013 SNC Days open house. That includes a chance for kids to meet the school’s mascot – Norby the Night – during a book-reading by the illustrator and author who played a big role in bringing Norby to life.
Nick Patton works in the art department at St. Norbert College and developed the concepts on which Norby was based. Earlier this summer, Nick also released his very first children’s book – a story about Norby figuring out what college life is all about.

The book-reading takes place at 11 am inside St. Norbert’s Mulva Library. Afterwards, the author will be signing books and Norby will be knighting kids in attendance. That’s a fun photo-op – especially for alumni with children.
Nick told WhooNEW he hopes his first book opens kids’ eyes to the traditions and opportunities that can be found at St. Norbert College.
“This story takes us all over St. Norbert’s campus, and my hope is that the book will give parents, grandparents and students who love the college an opportunity to introduce this special place to the young members of their families.”
This Saturday, Norby will help tell the story, making costume changes as he tries out different roles and positions at the college – from student to professor to president.
Nick’s book-reading is far from the only thing going on at SNC Days. There will be live music from local favorites like Boogies and the Yo Yoz, Unity the Band and Big Mouth. Musical groups from St. Norbert will also perform throughout the day.
Participate in a variety of arts and crafts activities – like making a Norby bookmark. Go on a boat ride. Take a free exercise class including Zumba and Hula Hooping. Then top it all off with some delicious food. Concessions will be available all over campus.
The open house is extended to the entire community as well as alumni, current students, faculty staff and family members. If anything – it’s the perfect chance to tour the charming college campus that’s located right on the Fox River.
